about

I was thinking about Stevie Wonder and Rage Against the Machine.. and I was thinking about of our worship of the fashion of rebellion, but our fear to think for ourselves and face ostracization as most true rebels do.

Being a rebel is usually a difficult and sometimes friendless task, and while our culture worships them, we don't make very many of them. Most rebels never see the mob turn its course and recognize them in their lifetime. Real rebellion is a very brave and lonely thing. But we do like to act the part.

The Symptoms of Rebellion
By Jared Lucas Nathanson

So Many People SEEM like Rebels
But few of Them SEEM to be Rebelling
Did they All Buy into some Image
That Madison Avenue is Selling
An Artificial Archetype
That While based on the Idea of Rebellion
is Distilled into pure Fashion Sense
that's Deprived of Ethical Aggression

The Symptoms of Rebellion
Have been Co-oped and Corrupted
Co-oped and Corrupted
By the Society
And They'll Be no Altercation
Attempting to rescue Ideology
Apparently its not needed
At least not Aesthetically

They threw out Civility
and bought in on Blind Rationality
increasing their Selfish Impression
Of a Complex World That They Can't See

And the Mean or Average Intelligence
In this World of Such Technical Brilliance
Is sinking Us into Irrelevance
and Vestigial Obscurity

The World Keeps Getting Smaller and Smaller and Smaller
The Rich and The Powerful are in for a Treat
As it Keeps Getting Harder and Harder
Not to Shit where you Eat

Cuze We're All Wrapped up in Bits of Hypocrisy
We Threw out All Our Books of Philosophy
We think we live in a Democracy
It's an Aristocracy

What Passes Today for a Rebellious stand
Is a arm tattoo and an indoor tan

Folks are Judging Their Intellect
By How Many Different Wines They Can Recollect
Modern People have Made The Mistake
to Over Appreciate
Things Like Cigars, Coffee and Scotch
Which I like Quite Myself A Lot

The Symptoms of Rebellion
Have been Co-oped and Corrupted
Co-oped and Corrupted
By the Society
And They'll Be no Altercation
Attempting to rescue Ideology
Apparently it's not really needed

At least not Aesthetically
At least not Aesthetically
Apparently we're not really needed
At least not Aesthetically

The Heartsleeves Boston, Massachusetts

Neo Eclectic, Soul Reflected, Sounds From Real Life!

Born in the glory and pageant of the noble working cities of Boise, Cleveland, Schenectady, Boston and Syracuse, "The Heartsleeves" is the voice of the no frills sincerity of real world American life.

We write our songs live, and refine them into a melancholy powder of sweet painful regret and sprinkle it on hearty soul pop.
